140114-15 Japan Trip Hakuba Tsugaike Backcountry and Happo Backcountry / 日本滞在 栂池&八方尾根バックカントリー

1/14(Tue) Tsugaike Backcountry

No new snow overnight so we didn't expect much but Japow was there in Tsugaike backcountry.
Despite of popularity of that area I was very surprised. Maybe just lucky we were.

Every morning we swung by Seven Eleven to buy our lunch and snacks.
Do you know seven elevens in the world are owned by Japanese Seven Eleven?
Started as American's licensed company and then 90's they bought back parent company.

To be honest, Japanese Seven Eleven 100 times better than the one here in Canada.
I hope they start to sell more stuff other than non fresh Sandwiches and chips.

Anyways grab some foods and drive to ski hill was our daily routine.

Tsugaike ski hill is about 30min drive from where we stay (Goryu ski hill).
$30 takes two to the top and start skinning up from top of chair.
Yes, only $15 per person a day. It is cheap isn't it?
The ski hill I've been working in Canada cost you $36 for one ride gondola.

I can't tell you exactly where we skied because I'm ski guide but I can tell you it was good!!

Too much fun lead us into dark

1/15(Wed) Happo One Backcountry

We had big day yesterday by accident so start late today.
Japanese ski guide Chikako Hayashi joined us and showed around Happo area.
Thanks very much Chikako-chan, much appreciated.

Happo backcountry is very big, you can have 1000m vertical with only 30min hike.
Seems more windy place and alpine features (no trees) than the others so possibly more wind effected snow you need to be there in right timing.

We did two laps so 2000m verts. Not too bad.
